Rock and Roll Juggernaut(2007)
It's been an interesting challenge. The guitar work was the most fun. Writing lyrics for this project was hard. Since I was writing in a blues/rock style it was hard to use the same approach I used with the Pros (basically writing about my every day life). Since I was going for more of a sleezy feel I had to create a character for the frontman of the band. I haven't named him yet but it my mind he's sort of a combo of Mick Jagger / Steven Tyler / Axl Rose / Austin Winkler / Scott Weiland basically into booze & sex before anything else. The album is styled after a live show. The album begins with just voice and guitar, then builds into full on rock, steps back to a dual electric-guitar & voice power ballad, builds up into arena rock territory then ends in an end of night instrumental jam. What I did was take the songs I've worked out and assign random topics to them. (1) Kick My Blues is the intro tune about getting out of a funk. (2) Sneakin' Round is about dating the hot girl in school and then finding out she's cheating on you. (3) Jimmy Is My Boy is about how Jim Beam is my best friend. (4) Can't Be Tied is a cheezy power ballard of sorts about an x-girlfriend calling and saying that she had your baby five years ago but being a slave to the rock and roll road and not wanting to be tied down. (5) Workin' Man is about being laid off with a new baby in the house and trying to make a go of it with rock and roll. (6) Lime? is about how awesome it is to drink on the Tube in London but how it sucks that no one ever has limes for Gin & Tonics at the bar in England. (7) Heaven is a basic love song. It's actually one I've had kicking around for years, I wrote it when I lived in London and missed Jenn. The Pros actually played it live once but never recorded it. (8) Saddle Up is about being that boy that your mama warned you about. (9) Runnin' Down is about a really hot stripper bleeding men dry of their money. (10) Smoking Section is a slow blusey instrumental that wraps up the album.
